    Hi all,

After a lot of requests for this feature, we decided to create an ad-plugin for Felgo. Even though there is a vast number of frameworks on the market and some of them look really promising, we decided to go with Google AdMob for a start. Here is why:

At first, we defined the requirements for our to-be ad framework. We agreed it should be well-known and widely used by many developers. Also, it should be cross-platform capable (at least Android and iOS) and support different kinds of ads (interstitial ads, different banner sizes, …). Furthermore, the APIs for different platforms should not differ too much.

Afterwards, we took a look at at more than 10 different mobile ad providers and ranked them according to our requirements. Here is a list of the ones we liked most:

    AdMob (http://www.google.com/ads/admob/)

    • Well established
    • Well documented
    • Mediation – inclusion of ads from other ad networks

    ChartBoost (https://www.chartboost.com/)

    • Specially designed for games and cross-promotion of games
    • Looks like an interesting way to drive sales
    • However, no traditional ads like banners (just interstitionals)

    Flurry AppSpot (http://www.flurry.com/AppSpot_small.html)

    • Mediation
    • Flurry Analytics already included in v-play

    Smatoo (http://www.smaato.com/)

    • Nice ad-types (e.g. expandable banners)
    • Supports a lot of platforms

We also researched Inner-Active, InMobi, Tapjoy, GetJar, MobiClix, AdTech, AdFalcon, AirPush and Appnext, but were not 100 % happy with either of them.

The implementation of the AdMob plugin starts now. As soon as it is finished, we are planning on adding plugins for other services as well, with the highest priority on ChartBoost, followed by Flurry AppSpot and Smatoo.

We are happy to hear your feedback and your experiences with ad frameworks!

    Best Regards,

    Lorenz from the Felgo Team
